Studying, grants and research are important. But I’ll never forget the people I’ve gotten to meet and the places I’ve gotten to go along the way. Here’s a photo gallery tour of my time in Colombia, a country that is home to the creole language called Palenquero, which is a mix of Spanish and Kikongo primarily and formed as the result of brave Africans escaping the Cartagena slave trade to form a maroon village.
